Tobias Groenewald’s Trans Am / shot in the Northern Cape, South Africa

{automotive} When my friend Tobie bought his Pontiac Trans Am four years back, we had this shoot in mind in a barren landscape. We finally decided that work has to wait and we needed to do this! We went to a small town called Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape. It was only a 24-hour-trip but we made so many memories and new friends. If you are in the area, go have a roosterkoek at Bagdad Cafe, what a vibe! It is important as a photographer to make time for your own personal projects. It keeps the creativity going! Porsche Track Experience / season 2018

{automotive} The Porsche Track Experience was once again amazing to be part of for another season in 2018. Looking back at all the Porsche pictures we shot in 2018 and all the countries we saw in Europe… grateful for awesome clients and fun work. Several visits to the Nürburgring, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, ACI Vallelunga Circuit and more made this a heck of an experience. One of the things we love about this job are all the interesting people we meet and friends we make. Bring on 2019!!

{commercial / editorial} We loved driving and shooting the new Mercedes-Benz C-class for the latest High Life, the British Airways inflight magazine. Pick up a copy on-board or in an airport lounge. It’s a top notch mag!

Dudley Nkosi / HFR Refrigerated for Scania Legend Magazine

{editorial} With 235 trucks, HFR Transport is one of the largest independent hauling companies in South Africa. Every day its drivers transport time-sensitive loads across this huge country and beyond. Dudley Nkosi, one of HFR’s “road jockeys”, takes great pride in his work. We got to meet and photograph him with his truck for the Scania Legend Magazine.

Porsche GT2RS / shot for TopGear South Africa [July 2018]

{editorial} We shot the fastest production car ever made (if you use the Nürburgring as a benchmark) for TopGear South Africa. The rain came down in buckets and we love the dramatic effect it gave the pictures! We blasted through Franchhoek towards Stanford, then back to Cape Town via Kleinmond. I have never ever felt so much power on four wheels, unreal. The new GT2RS makes mince meat out of ALL the supercars and hypercars ever made. DNA – Desmond

Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars Calendar 2018 / shot in Spain

{automotive} In July we got a call from Mercedes-Benz Germany. They told us that they love our natural style of taking photos and they would love for us to be part of the international 2018 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars calendar.

Five other car photographers from all around the world were selected for this collaboration. Each photographer got a country and a car. We got the GLC and Spain. We decided to go up country to the lesser traveled north and east. Our main spot was Bardenas Reales, a semi-desert natural region.

We are super honoured to have been part of this, it was definitely a 2017 highlight.

You can buy the calendar here.

Have a look at the photographs used and some behind-the-scenes shots.

“The Mercedes-Benz 2018 passenger car calendar takes you for a ride with the new EQ Power vehicles. Look forward to the fascinating trip with #MBSocialCar photographers and allow yourself to become inspired for 12 entire months.”

Clint Reynolds / Austin, Texas, USA

{editorial} Clint Reynolds lives with his girlfriend Jamie and dog Woody in an airstream in a backyard of a house he is sharing with a bunch of people in Austin’s east city. He builds bicycles, he rides them, he builds jumps, he road trips around the States in his Mercedes-Benz van that runs on vegetable oil. He’s living the dream. He is a dirt jump legend; he wouldn’t tell you though. Clint is a humble man. He shows us his airstream, the one he’s living in and the one he’s working on. We go for a ride in his van and visit the Eastside trails where he spends most of his time when he’s in Austin.

DNA WOR{KING} X Business Day Wanted collaboration

{editorial} Our project WOR{KING} kicked off in February 2014. We just kept on meeting more and more people with awesome wheels (cars, of course, but also motorcycles and bicycles) and their stories and we had to do something with them. For us it was only natural to shoot them plus to do a little interview.
The history of the vehicle and the memories associated with it are usually about more than just the ‘drive’. South Africa and Germany, where most of the content was gathered, have an incredible car culture. The content features various characters and stories: A son who buys his dad his lifelong favorite car, a family that has owned ten Volkswagen Beetles, with which they managed to conquer difficult 4×4 only passes. A father and son who have restored a Boss Mustang for the duration of eleven years. A filmmaker who loves his narrow car and hopes it never becomes trendy…
The people included in this book are a few that we have met on our travels in South Africa, USA, Portugal, Germany and Thailand.
